conductor coil

Wound metal wire within cardiac leads that carries electrical signals between the pulse generator and heart tissue.

Full Definition

The internal metallic component of cardiac leads consisting of one or more coiled wires that conduct electrical impulses from the pulse generator to the electrode and return sensing signals back to the device. Conductor coils are typically made from materials such as MP35N alloy or platinum-iridium and are designed to withstand millions of cardiac cycles while maintaining electrical integrity. The coil configuration affects lead flexibility, durability, and electrical performance characteristics.

Usage note: Distinguish from shock coils used for defibrillation in high-voltage leads.
