A five-letter coding system used to describe pacemaker programming and functionality.

The NASPE/BPEG code is a standardized five-letter nomenclature system developed by the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) and the British Pacing and Electrophysiology Group (BPEG) to describe pacemaker operating modes and functions. The first letter indicates the chamber paced (A=atrium, V=ventricle, D=dual), the second letter indicates the chamber sensed (A, V, D, or O=none), the third letter describes the response to sensing (I=inhibited, T=triggered, D=dual response), the fourth letter indicates rate responsiveness (R=rate responsive, O=none), and the fifth letter describes multisite pacing (A=atrium, V=ventricle, D=dual, O=none). Common examples include DDD (dual-chamber pacing with dual sensing and dual response) and DDDR (the same with rate responsiveness). This coding system provides a universal language for describing pacemaker function and programming across different manufacturers and clinical settings.
