A pocket hematoma is a localized collection of blood within the subcutaneous or submuscular space created during cardiac device implantation. This complication typically occurs within the first 24-48 hours post-implantation due to inadequate hemostasis, anticoagulation therapy, or excessive patient activity. Small hematomas may resolve spontaneously, while large or expanding hematomas may require surgical evacuation to prevent infection, device migration, or skin necrosis. Prevention strategies include meticulous hemostasis, temporary anticoagulation adjustment when safe, and patient activity restrictions during initial healing.
