VVI pacing

A basic pacing mode that stimulates the ventricle when intrinsic ventricular activity is not detected.

Full Definition

VVI pacing is a single-chamber pacing mode described by the NASPE/BPEG generic pacemaker code. The first letter (V) indicates ventricular pacing, the second letter (V) indicates ventricular sensing, and the third letter (I) indicates inhibited response to sensed events. In VVI mode, the pacemaker delivers stimulation to the ventricle only when no intrinsic ventricular activity is sensed within the programmed interval. This mode provides basic bradycardia support but lacks atrioventricular synchrony, making it suitable primarily for patients with chronic atrial fibrillation.
