Activation mapping is a fundamental electrophysiologic technique used to determine the sequence and timing of electrical activation across cardiac tissue during normal rhythm or arrhythmias. By recording local electrograms from multiple sites and analyzing their timing relative to a reference signal, electrophysiologists can identify the earliest site of activation, propagation patterns, and potential ablation targets. This technique is essential for localizing arrhythmia origins and understanding conduction pathways in both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.
