Morphology matching is a critical validation step in electrophysiology studies where the 12-lead ECG morphology of laboratory-induced arrhythmias is compared with spontaneously occurring clinical episodes. This comparison confirms that the induced arrhythmia represents the same mechanism as the patient's clinical problem, ensuring that mapping and ablation efforts target the correct substrate. Perfect morphology matching indicates identical ventricular activation sequences and exit sites. Discordant morphologies suggest multiple arrhythmia circuits or different mechanisms, requiring comprehensive evaluation of all inducible forms. Modern EP systems facilitate automated morphology analysis and template matching.
