The apical four-chamber view is obtained from the cardiac apex and shows all four cardiac chambers simultaneously. This view is crucial for assessing biventricular function, measuring chamber dimensions, and evaluating atrioventricular valve function. The A4C view provides optimal visualization of the interventricular and interatrial septa and is commonly used for measuring ejection fraction using biplane Simpson's method. It also serves as the primary view for assessing tricuspid regurgitation velocity and estimating pulmonary artery pressures.
