Phase-sensitive reconstruction (PSR) is an advanced MRI post-processing method that recovers the polarity of signals in inversion recovery sequences, particularly valuable in late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging. Traditional magnitude reconstruction loses phase information, making it difficult to distinguish between normal myocardium and tissues with intermediate T1 values. PSR restores positive and negative signal phases, creating images where normal myocardium appears dark gray, scar tissue appears bright white, and tissues with intermediate enhancement appear black. This technique significantly improves contrast-to-noise ratio and enables better detection of subtle enhancement patterns, particularly useful for identifying small infarcts and diffuse fibrosis.
