Full Definition

The parasternal long-axis view is a standard echocardiographic imaging plane obtained from the left parasternal border. This view provides optimal visualization of the left ventricle, left atrium, aortic root, and mitral valve in a longitudinal plane. It is essential for measuring left ventricular dimensions, assessing wall motion, and evaluating aortic and mitral valve function. The PLAX view is typically the first imaging plane acquired during a comprehensive echocardiographic examination.
