RVOT

Also written as: RVOT — Right Ventricular Outflow Tract

Right ventricular outflow tract, the pathway through which blood flows from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery.

Full Definition

The right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) is the anatomical region of the right ventricle that connects the main body of the ventricle to the pulmonary valve and pulmonary artery. In cardiac imaging, the RVOT is commonly evaluated for obstruction, valve abnormalities, and flow dynamics. Echocardiographic assessment typically includes measurement of RVOT diameter and velocity time integral to calculate stroke volume and cardiac output. The RVOT view is a standard echocardiographic projection used to assess pulmonary valve function and right heart hemodynamics.

Usage

Usage note: Always specify whether referring to the anatomical structure or the echocardiographic view.

In Context

  • "RVOT velocity was elevated at 3.2 m/s suggesting pulmonary stenosis." — Echocardiography report
  • "The RVOT view demonstrated normal pulmonary valve opening." — Echo imaging description
