Full Definition

A calculated parameter that estimates myocardial oxygen demand by multiplying heart rate by systolic blood pressure. Rate-pressure product serves as a practical tool for monitoring cardiac workload during exercise testing and training sessions. Values typically range from 6,000-12,000 at rest to 25,000-40,000 during maximal exercise in healthy individuals. This measurement helps establish safe exercise limits and track cardiovascular efficiency improvements.

Usage note: Also called 'double product'; expressed as HR × SBP without units or with units of mmHg•bpm.
