Aortic root replacement is a complex cardiac surgical procedure that involves replacing the entire aortic root structure, including the aortic valve, valve annulus, and the ascending aorta up to the sinotubular junction. This procedure is typically performed for aortic root aneurysms, acute aortic dissections, or when both the valve and root are diseased. The procedure may use a composite graft with a mechanical or biological valve, or a homograft. Coronary artery reimplantation is required, making this one of the most technically demanding cardiac operations.
