DAPA-HF (Dapagliflozin in Patients with Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction) was a randomized controlled trial that enrolled nearly 5,000 patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), both with and without diabetes. The trial demonstrated that dapagliflozin significantly reduced the composite endpoint of cardiovascular death or worsening heart failure compared to placebo, with benefits seen regardless of diabetes status. This landmark trial established SGLT2 inhibitors as a new pillar of heart failure therapy and led to regulatory approval of dapagliflozin for heart failure treatment.
