CREDENCE trial
Also written as: CREDENCE — Canagliflozin and Renal Events in Diabetes with Established Nephropathy Clinical Evaluation
Landmark renal outcomes trial demonstrating kidney protective effects of canagliflozin in diabetic kidney disease.
Full Definition
CREDENCE (Canagliflozin and Renal Events in Diabetes with Established Nephropathy Clinical Evaluation) was a randomized controlled trial that enrolled over 4,400 patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. The trial was terminated early due to clear evidence of efficacy, showing that canagliflozin significantly reduced the risk of kidney failure, doubling of serum creatinine, and renal or cardiovascular death. CREDENCE established SGLT2 inhibitors as a new standard of care for diabetic kidney disease and influenced major clinical practice guidelines.
Usage
Usage note: Often cited as the definitive renal outcomes trial for SGLT2 inhibitors in diabetic kidney disease.
