The procedure involves initial rapid glucose elevation followed by maintenance of the target glucose level for 2-3 hours, during which insulin secretion patterns are characterized. The technique allows assessment of first-phase insulin response, second-phase insulin secretion, and maximum secretory capacity. Hyperglycemic clamp studies provide detailed insights into beta-cell function that are crucial for understanding diabetes pathophysiology and evaluating therapeutic interventions.
