Time in range (TIR) is a key glycemic metric derived from continuous glucose monitoring data that represents the percentage of time glucose levels remain within a specified target range, typically 70-180 mg/dL (3.9-10.0 mmol/L) for most adults with diabetes. TIR provides a more comprehensive assessment of glycemic control than HbA1c alone, capturing both the frequency and duration of glucose excursions. International consensus recommends a TIR target of greater than 70% for most adults with diabetes, with complementary metrics including time below range (<70 mg/dL) kept under 4% and time above range (>180 mg/dL) maintained below 25%.
