Full Definition

A diagnostic technique that provides comprehensive assessment of hemostatic function by measuring the viscoelastic properties of blood as it clots. The test evaluates clot formation time, clot strength, and fibrinolysis, providing parameters including R-time, K-time, alpha angle, maximum amplitude, and LY30. In cardiac surgery, TEG guides transfusion therapy and helps distinguish between surgical bleeding and coagulopathy. Results are displayed as characteristic tracings that experienced clinicians interpret to guide hemostatic management.
