TAVR
Also written as: TAVR — Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement performed without open surgery.
Full Definition
TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a diseased aortic valve using a catheter-delivered prosthetic valve. The procedure is typically performed via femoral arterial access, though alternative approaches include transapical, transaortic, or subclavian routes. TAVR has become the preferred treatment for high-risk surgical patients with severe aortic stenosis and is increasingly used in intermediate and low-risk populations.
Usage
Usage note: Also known as TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) in some regions.
