Arterial line dampening refers to the loss of fidelity in arterial pressure waveforms, typically manifested as reduced systolic pressure peaks and loss of dicrotic notch definition. Common causes include air bubbles in the tubing, blood clots, kinked lines, or inappropriate transducer positioning. In cardiac surgery, accurate arterial pressure monitoring is critical for hemodynamic management and detection of complications such as aortic dissection or cardiac tamponade.
