Full Definition

A technique performed after separation from cardiopulmonary bypass that uses concentrated ultrafiltration to remove excess fluid and inflammatory mediators from the patient's blood. This process helps reduce post-operative bleeding, improves hemodynamics, and may reduce the systemic inflammatory response. It is particularly beneficial in pediatric cardiac surgery and complex adult cases with prolonged bypass times.
