CRUSADE score

Bleeding risk prediction tool used to estimate major bleeding risk in patients with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes.

Full Definition

The CRUSADE (Can Rapid Risk Stratification of Unstable Angina Patients Suppress Adverse Outcomes with Early Implementation of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guidelines) bleeding score is a validated risk prediction model that estimates the probability of major bleeding in patients hospitalized with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes. The score incorporates baseline hematocrit, creatinine clearance, heart rate, sex, signs of congestive heart failure, prior vascular disease, diabetes, and systolic blood pressure to stratify patients into very low, low, moderate, high, and very high bleeding risk categories.

Usage

Usage note: Specific to NSTE-ACS patients; do not confuse with GRACE score which predicts ischemic rather than bleeding risk.

In Context

  • "The patient's CRUSADE score of 45 indicated high bleeding risk, influencing the choice of anticoagulation strategy." — Cardiology consultation note
  • "Risk-benefit assessment using CRUSADE score guided the decision to use bivalirudin instead of heparin plus GPI." — Clinical decision documentation
