Parametric mapping is an advanced cardiac MRI technique that generates color-coded maps displaying quantitative tissue characteristics on a pixel-by-pixel basis. Common applications include T1 mapping for detecting diffuse fibrosis and infiltrative diseases, T2 mapping for identifying myocardial edema and inflammation, and extracellular volume (ECV) mapping for assessing myocardial fibrosis. These maps provide objective, reproducible measurements that can detect subtle pathological changes before they become apparent on conventional imaging sequences. The technique requires specialized pulse sequences and post-processing software to calculate and display the parametric values as color overlays on anatomical images.
