coagulative necrosis

A type of cell death where tissue architecture is preserved but cellular details are lost, typically seen in myocardial infarction.

Full Definition

Coagulative necrosis is a pattern of tissue death characterized by preservation of the basic structural outline of the tissue while cellular details are lost. In cardiac pathology, this is the predominant type of necrosis seen in myocardial infarction. The affected myocytes lose their nuclei and cross-striations but maintain their general cellular outline. This contrasts with other forms of necrosis such as liquefactive or caseous necrosis seen in different organs or disease processes.
