myocardial blush grade

Angiographic assessment system for evaluating microvascular perfusion in the myocardium during coronary angiography.

Full Definition

Myocardial blush grade (MBG) is an angiographic scoring system used to assess microvascular perfusion and tissue-level blood flow in the myocardium. The grading system ranges from 0 to 3: MBG 0 indicates no myocardial blush or contrast density; MBG 1 shows minimal blush or contrast density; MBG 2 demonstrates moderate blush but less than in normal areas; and MBG 3 indicates normal blush or contrast density that clears normally. This assessment tool is particularly valuable in evaluating the success of reperfusion therapy beyond simple epicardial flow restoration, as it provides insight into microvascular function and predicts clinical outcomes following coronary interventions.

Usage

Usage note: Always specify the numeric grade (0-3) and should be used in conjunction with TIMI flow assessment.

In Context

  • "Final angiography showed TIMI 3 flow with MBG 2, indicating suboptimal tissue perfusion." — Primary PCI completion report
  • "Excellent procedural result with TIMI 3 flow and MBG 3 in the treated territory." — Interventional outcome assessment
