Full Definition

Single-photon emission computed tomography myocardial perfusion imaging (SPECT-MPI) is a nuclear cardiology technique that evaluates regional myocardial blood flow using radioactive tracers such as technetium-99m or thallium-201. The procedure involves stress and rest imaging phases to identify areas of reduced perfusion that may indicate coronary artery disease. SPECT-MPI provides functional information about the heart muscle's blood supply and can detect ischemia even when coronary angiography appears normal. This non-invasive test is widely used for risk stratification and guiding revascularization decisions in patients with suspected or known coronary disease.
