TIMI flow

Pronunciation: TIH-mee

Standardized grading system for epicardial coronary blood flow assessment.

Full Definition

TIMI (Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction) flow is a widely used angiographic grading system that quantifies epicardial coronary blood flow on a scale from 0 to 3. TIMI 0 indicates no perfusion, TIMI 1 shows penetration without perfusion, TIMI 2 demonstrates partial perfusion with delayed flow, and TIMI 3 represents normal flow. The classification was originally developed for clinical trials but is now standard terminology for describing coronary flow in interventional procedures and serves as an important endpoint for assessing procedural success.

Usage

Usage note: Always specify the numerical grade (0-3) when documenting TIMI flow.

In Context

  • "Final angiography demonstrated TIMI 3 flow in all vessel segments." — Procedure report
  • "The patient presented with TIMI 0 flow in the culprit artery before intervention." — Emergency catheterization report
