Full Definition

Patient-oriented composite endpoint (POCE) is a broad composite outcome measure designed to capture all clinically relevant adverse events from a patient's perspective, regardless of their relationship to the study device or procedure. POCE typically includes all-cause death, any myocardial infarction (not just target vessel-related), and any revascularization (including both target and non-target vessel procedures). This endpoint provides a comprehensive assessment of overall patient outcomes and is less subject to adjudication bias compared to device-oriented endpoints. POCE is particularly valuable in cardiovascular research for evaluating the overall safety and effectiveness of interventions from a real-world clinical perspective. The endpoint acknowledges that patients experience all adverse events equally, regardless of their mechanistic relationship to the study intervention.
