Standardized parent-report checklist assessing behavioral and emotional problems in children and adolescents.
Full Definition
The Child Behavior Checklist is a widely used assessment tool completed by parents or caregivers to evaluate behavioral and emotional problems in youth ages 1.5-18. It provides scores for internalizing problems, externalizing problems, and total problems, along with eight syndrome scales. The CBCL is part of the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment and has corresponding teacher and youth self-report versions. It is frequently used in clinical practice, research, and treatment outcome studies.
