Full Definition

Continuous video-EEG monitoring (CVEM) involves simultaneous recording of electroencephalographic activity and video observation over extended periods, typically 1-7 days in a specialized monitoring unit. This technique allows precise correlation between clinical events and electrical brain activity, enabling differentiation between epileptic and non-epileptic events, characterization of seizure types, and localization of seizure onset zones for surgical planning. CVEM is considered the gold standard for comprehensive epilepsy evaluation.
