A collision study is an advanced electrodiagnostic technique used to evaluate the continuity and conduction properties of peripheral nerves. The method involves stimulating a nerve from two different points simultaneously or in rapid succession, creating nerve impulses that travel toward each other (antidromic and orthodromic directions). When the impulses meet, they 'collide' and cancel each other out. This technique is particularly useful for assessing axon continuity in cases of suspected nerve injury, demyelination, or conduction block, and can help distinguish between different types of nerve pathology.
