Guided implant surgery (also called computer-guided implant surgery or static guided surgery) involves the use of a 3D-printed or milled surgical stent derived from virtual treatment planning software that integrates CBCT data and digital impressions. The guide constrains the drill and, in fully guided systems, the implant itself to a predetermined trajectory. Editors working on clinical technology papers must distinguish between 'fully guided' (controlling implant placement) and 'partially guided' (controlling drilling only) protocols, as outcomes data differ significantly. The term should not be conflated with 'dynamic navigation,' which uses real-time tracking rather than a physical guide. Accuracy outcomes are commonly reported as entry point deviation, apex deviation, and angular deviation, and these metrics must be labelled and unitised correctly (typically in millimetres and degrees).
