Implant diameter is one of the two primary dimensional parameters of an implant fixture, the other being implant length. It is measured in millimetres and determines the implant's footprint within bone as well as its compatibility with abutment systems. Narrow-diameter implants (typically ≤3.5 mm) are used in sites with limited bone width, whereas wide-diameter implants (≥5 mm) are indicated in molar regions or for immediate loading protocols. Editors should note that diameter values are often reported alongside length as a paired specification (e.g., '4.1 × 10 mm') and must be presented consistently across tables and narrative text.
