The Morse taper connection (also styled Morse-taper or cone morse) is an internal connection geometry in which the abutment cone seats into the implant body at a matching taper angle, typically between 1.5° and 8°. The cold-weld effect achieved through metal-to-metal friction virtually eliminates the micro-gap at the implant–abutment junction, reducing bacterial infiltration and micro-movement that could contribute to crestal bone loss. Clinical literature associates Morse taper connections with greater mechanical stability and fewer incidences of screw loosening compared with flat-top internal or external hex connections. Editors should not confuse this term with 'internal hex connection' or use 'conical connection' as an exact synonym without verifying the taper angle specified by the manufacturer.
