IPS e.max (manufactured by Ivoclar Vivadent) is the leading commercial lithium disilicate glass-ceramic used for fabricating anterior and posterior single-unit crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays. It is available in two forms: e.max Press (for heat-pressed technique) and e.max CAD (for milling then crystallisation firing). Lithium disilicate restorations are valued for combining high flexural strength (approximately 400 MPa for CAD) with excellent translucency. Editors must render the brand name correctly as 'e.max' (lowercase 'e', full stop, lowercase 'max'); 'E-Max,' 'Emax,' and 'E.Max' are non-standard and should be corrected. The prefix 'IPS' may be included or omitted based on house style.
