Metal-ceramic (MC) restorations, also termed porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) or porcelain-bonded-to-metal, represent a long-established category of indirect restorations used for single crowns and fixed partial dentures. The metal framework provides structural integrity while the veneering porcelain provides tooth-like aesthetics. Bonding between the two layers relies on mechanical retention, compressive stress from the coefficient of thermal expansion mismatch, and chemical bonding through metal oxides. Editors should be aware that 'porcelain-fused-to-metal' (PFM) and 'metal-ceramic' are synonymous; preference varies by journal style.
