Resin Cement

A resin-based luting material used to bond indirect ceramic, metal, or composite restorations to tooth structure, relying on micromechanical and/or chemical adhesion.

Resin cements are a category of adhesive luting agents based on dimethacrylate monomers, analogous in composition to restorative composites but formulated with lower viscosity and filler loading to enable thin-film cementation. They are classified by their cure mechanism—light-cure, dual-cure, or self-cure—and by their adhesive strategy: total-etch, self-etch, or self-adhesive. The category 'self-adhesive resin cement' (e.g., RelyX U200) is a common source of editorial confusion, as it requires no separate primer or adhesive. Editors should ensure that cement type, cure mode, and adhesive protocol are consistently described throughout a manuscript. Resin cement is preferred over 'composite cement,' which is not a standard designation.
