Paralleling Technique
An intraoral radiographic method in which the film or sensor is placed parallel to the long axis of the tooth and the X-ray beam is directed perpendicular to both, minimising geometric distortion.

The paralleling technique — also known as the right-angle or long-cone technique — is the preferred method for periapical radiography because it produces the most geometrically accurate images with minimal elongation or foreshortening. The film or digital sensor is positioned parallel to the tooth's long axis using a film-holding device, and the X-ray beam is directed at right angles to both the tooth and the receptor. Editors reviewing dental radiology methods sections should distinguish this from the 'bisecting-angle technique,' in which the beam is aimed at the bisector of the angle formed between the tooth and film. 'Paralleling' is the gerund form used as a modifier; do not write 'parallel technique.'
