Dental pulp is the neurovascular connective tissue housed within the pulp chamber and root canals of a tooth, surrounded by dentin. It comprises fibroblasts, odontoblasts (the dentin-forming cells lining the pulp periphery), immune cells, blood vessels, and sensory nerve fibres. In dental research, pulp vitality is assessed using thermal and electrical tests and is a key diagnostic and outcome variable in endodontic and restorative studies. Editorial attention should be paid to the distinction between 'pulp vitality' (blood supply) and 'pulp sensibility' (nerve response), as these terms are not synonymous and are often incorrectly interchanged in manuscripts. 'Pulpal' is the standard adjective form.
