The Tooth Surface Index of Fluorosis (TSIF) was developed by Horowitz et al. as an alternative to the Dean's Fluorosis Index, offering greater sensitivity by scoring the severity of fluorosis on individual tooth surfaces rather than assigning a single score per tooth. TSIF scores range from 0 (no evidence of fluorosis) to 7 (discrete or confluent pitting affecting more than one-third of the visible tooth surface, with brown staining).
