The Tooth Wear Evaluation System (TWES) is a structured clinical and radiographic scoring system developed to standardise the documentation and grading of tooth wear in research and clinical practice. It integrates aetiological classification (erosion, abrasion, attrition, or combination) with a severity scale, enabling both cross-sectional prevalence studies and longitudinal monitoring. In research manuscripts, editors should confirm that the TWES version is specified (TWES 2.0 is the current version), that the aetiological sub-scores are reported separately from the severity scores, and that the system is not conflated with BEWE, which scores erosive wear only. The TWES provides a broader remit than BEWE by encompassing all wear aetiologies.

Usage note: Do not substitute TWES for BEWE; BEWE scores only erosive surfaces, whereas TWES encompasses all wear aetiologies. Specify the version number when citing TWES.
