Full Definition
A common precancerous skin lesion that develops as a result of chronic sun exposure and photodamage. Actinic keratoses appear as rough, scaly patches on sun-exposed areas such as the face, scalp, hands, and forearms. While most actinic keratoses remain stable, approximately 5-10% have the potential to progress to invasive squamous cell carcinoma over time. Treatment options include cryotherapy, topical medications, photodynamic therapy, and surgical excision.
