Full Definition
The most common form of skin cancer, arising from the basal cells in the lowest layer of the epidermis. Basal cell carcinoma typically develops on sun-exposed areas and presents as a pearly, translucent nodule with telangiectasias, though it can also appear as a scaly patch or ulcerated lesion. While it rarely metastasizes, BCC can be locally aggressive and destructive if left untreated. Treatment options include surgical excision, Mohs surgery, electrodesiccation and curettage, and topical therapies.
