Bilobe Flap

A double-lobed transposition flap with two interconnected tissue segments. Designed to close defects while redistributing tension optimally.

Full Definition

The bilobe flap consists of two adjacent tissue lobes connected by a common pedicle, with the primary lobe directly covering the defect and the secondary lobe closing the donor site of the primary lobe. This configuration effectively redistributes tissue tension across two vectors rather than concentrating it at a single point. The angle between lobes is typically 45-50 degrees for optimal design. Bilobe flaps are particularly useful in areas with limited tissue elasticity such as the nasal tip and are considered the gold standard for certain nasal reconstructions due to excellent color and texture match.
