Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a heterogeneous group of cancers that develop from neuroendocrine cells, which have characteristics of both nerve cells and hormone-producing endocrine cells. These tumors can occur in various organs including the pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and other sites. NETs are classified by grade and stage, with some being functional (hormone-secreting) and others non-functional. Treatment approaches vary based on location, grade, and functional status.
