A targeted radiotherapy treatment for somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors.

Full Definition

Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) is a molecularly targeted treatment that delivers radiation directly to neuroendocrine tumor cells expressing somatostatin receptors. The therapy uses radiolabeled somatostatin analogs, most commonly lutetium-177 DOTATATE, which bind to receptors on tumor cells and deliver localized radiation. PRRT is indicated for well-differentiated, somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors and has shown significant benefit in progression-free survival.
