Stereotactic EEG (sEEG) is an invasive monitoring technique that uses stereotactically implanted depth electrodes to record electrical activity directly from brain tissue. This method allows precise localization of seizure onset zones, particularly in cases where surface EEG and imaging studies are inconclusive. The procedure involves computer-guided placement of multiple thin electrodes through small burr holes, enabling recording from deep brain structures while minimizing surgical trauma compared to traditional grid and strip electrode implantation.
