Subdural electrodes

Intracranial electrodes placed directly on the brain surface beneath the dura mater for precise seizure localization.

Full Definition

Subdural electrodes are invasive monitoring devices surgically placed on the cortical surface underneath the dura mater during presurgical evaluation. They provide high-resolution electrocorticographic recordings with superior spatial localization compared to scalp EEG. These electrodes are typically arranged in grids or strips and allow for both seizure monitoring and functional mapping. The procedure carries surgical risks but is essential for determining resectable epileptic zones in complex cases where non-invasive methods are insufficient.
