Full Definition

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an objective assessment that measures physical abilities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and sustained activities. In exercise rehabilitation, FCEs are used to establish baseline function, guide treatment planning, and determine readiness for return to work or sport. The evaluation typically takes 4-8 hours and produces detailed reports comparing measured abilities to job or activity requirements.
