Amnio-infusion, also known as amnioinfusion, is a therapeutic procedure involving the introduction of sterile saline or lactated Ringer's solution into the amniotic cavity through ultrasound-guided needle placement. This intervention is primarily used to treat severe oligohydramnios (decreased amniotic fluid) to prevent compression-related fetal complications such as pulmonary hypoplasia and limb deformities. The procedure can also be performed intrapartum to reduce cord compression during labor or antepartum to improve ultrasound visualization for detailed fetal assessment. Success rates and safety profiles vary depending on the underlying cause of oligohydramnios and gestational age at intervention.
