Middle Cerebral Artery Peak Systolic Velocity (MCA PSV) is a specialized Doppler ultrasound measurement used primarily to detect fetal anemia, particularly in cases of alloimmunization or suspected parvovirus infection. Elevated MCA PSV values indicate increased cardiac output compensating for anemia. The measurement is taken from the proximal portion of the middle cerebral artery near the circle of Willis, and results are compared to gestational age-specific reference ranges. This non-invasive technique has largely replaced invasive procedures for monitoring at-risk fetuses.
